Virginia man facing drunk driving charges after crash

On Behalf of | Jan 18, 2018 | DUI

An evening accident involving an SUV and another vehicle has resulted in criminal charges for one man. One of many such incidents occurring on Virginia roadways, the man will join the ranks of people who have defended themselves against claims of criminal activity. Facing drunk driving charges after the crash, it is likely this individual is pondering how to create a strong defense.

Responding to reports of a crash, authorities arrived at the scene of a 10 p.m. incident in Henrico. At the intersection of Raintree Drive and Gayton Road, they found a driver who reported that he had been struck by an SUV that later fled the scene without stopping. While investigating the crash, authorities searched the area and found an SUV overturned in the nearby area at Raintree Drive and Foxcreek Circle. Eyewitnesses reported that an individual had fled the scene on foot.

An 18-year-old man was later located and allegedly determined to be the driver of the overturned SUV. The man was arrested. His criminal charges included hit and run, driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

In Virginia, these charges carry serious penalties for the individual if he is convicted. He could be charged fines or even given jail time, depending on the circumstances of the incident. A person facing drunk driving charges may even lose his or her license, depending on the case, and without a license, many individuals would struggle in their day-to-day lives. Individuals facing similar charges in Virginia may benefit from having help with their cases. Many will choose to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney for assistance in building a strong defense against the charges.
