Virginia man arrested for drunk driving after fatal crash

On Behalf of | Oct 18, 2018 | DUI

Most people realize that when they utilize Virginia roadways, they could potentially be involved in an accident. Unfortunately, all it takes is a single moment of inattention to cause a serious, potentially fatal accident. In fact, a man who was arrested for drunk driving following a fatal crash now faces multiple charges.

The incident that led to the man’s arrest reportedly happened on a day in March. Police say that he was driving a pickup truck at the time of the collision. His pickup reportedly struck another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle and a passenger, the driver’s father-in-law, died. Two other occupants, the driver’s wife and son, suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested just days after the crash and charged with driving while intoxicated and involuntary manslaughter. He was recently indicted on an additional charge — maiming while driving under the influence. Many details of the accident, including how the man’s blood alcohol content was determined, are unclear.

When a fatal accident such as this occurs in Virginia, the desire for answers and the need to hold responsible parties accountable are understandable. However, in all cases involving criminal charges, a suspect and/or defendant is considered not guilty unless sufficient evidence is provided to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt — a standard that is often difficult to meet. Many people arrested for drunk driving and other criminal charges are often unfamiliar with the criminal process, making it difficult for them to make informed decisions about their case. As such, they often turn to experienced professionals for advice.
