Virginia driver arrested for drunk driving after pedestrian crash

A car accident can happen at any time of the day or night. However, it may be more difficult for drivers to see and properly respond to changing road conditions -- such as a pedestrian crossing the street -- at night due to the decreased visibility. Despite this, police in Virginia may be quick to assume that an accident that happens during the early morning hours is the result of a driver who is under the influence. In fact, a man was arrested for drunk driving after a crash that involved a pedestrian.

Reports indicate that the accident happened around 1:45 a.m. on a day in early September. Law enforcement officials believe that a 52-year-old male was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man. The driver is said to have pulled over into a nearby parking lot; a passenger then called 911.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital for treatment. Family members say that the man is recovering from broken bones and internal bleeding. The driver was arrested, suspected of driving under the influence.

Even though the man was arrested for drunk driving, it is unclear what led police to believe that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time or what his blood alcohol content was reported to be. Even though drunk driving allegations can have serious personal, professional and financial implications, most people in Virginia are unsure of how to best respond. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help them understand their options and the potential ramifications of each.
