Man faces multiple criminal charges following DUI arrest

A man in Virginia was recently arrested in connection with a fatal car crash that took place in late March. The accident, which led to the death of a survey worker, occurred along Interstate 64. According to authorities, the man's arrest was a DUI arrest, as he allegedly drove while drug impaired at the time of the accident.

Police said the driver was going east on the interstate and suddenly lost control of the car. At that time, he allegedly left the roadway. He then reportedly entered the median and ended up in the road's westbound lanes.

When the driver over-corrected, he allegedly hit an embankment, and the car went airborne. Police said the car then hit a man, 23, who had been standing along the street. The 23-year-old man ended up dying at the scene of the accident. Following an investigation that lasted two months, police arrested the man who reportedly caused the accident. He now faces charges of driving while drug-impaired, involuntary manslaughter related to DUI and driving with a revoked/suspended license for the third time.

The man who was arrested has the right to proceed to trial to fight the DUI charges filed against him. At trial, prosecutors must prove his charges beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can be handed down. Alternatively, the man may seek to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecutors with the goal of achieving a lighter sentence than what may result from a guilty verdict at trial. An attorney in Virginia can help him to make the best decisions given the circumstances surrounding his DUI arrest.
