Woman facing drunk driving charges in Virginia

Car accidents can happen at any moment of the day for a variety of different reasons. Unfortunately, law enforcement officials may automatically assume that an accident was caused by a person who was under the influence of alcohol. In fact, a woman in Virginia is now facing drunk driving charges after she was allegedly involved in a collision.

The incident that ultimately led to the woman’s arrest reportedly happened one evening on a day in late December. According to reports, police received reports about a vehicle that was involved in an accident in a parking lot, though the details of the incident are unclear. The driver reportedly left the scene, but police say that callers provided a description of the vehicle.

Reports claim that police received several reports about an erratic driver in a vehicle matching the same description following the initial incident report. Police say that they eventually found the vehicle in a ditch. The alleged driver, a 30-year-old woman, is said to have “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage” coming from her person, prompting police to conduct a field sobriety test. Police say that she failed that test.

In addition to facing drunk driving charges, the woman is also charged with evading responsibility. When it comes to allegations of driving under the influence, measures such as field sobriety tests are subject to subjective interpretations. Breath tests are also often fallible due to result of human error. Often those charged with such crimes in Virginia want an attorney with experience with such cases to examine the evidence against them and help them create the most appropriate plan of action.
