Car accidents can happen for a variety of reasons. In some cases, something as simple as changing the radio station can create enough of a distraction to cause an accident. Despite this, police in Virginia and across the country may be quick to assume that an accident — especially one that occurs during late at night or early in the morning — is the result of a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In fact, a woman is now facing drunk driving charges after police say she was involved in a fatal accident.
The accident that led to the 26-year-old woman’s arrest reportedly happened during the early morning hours of a day in August. According to reports, both the woman and a 46-year-old male motorcyclist were westbound on a Virginia road. Though some reports indicate that the woman “drove him off the road,” the details of how that happened are unclear. Police say that both vehicles crossed the center median, ultimately striking two different trees on the other side of the road.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. The female driver is said to have suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Police believe that both alcohol and speed were factors in the accident.
Now, the woman facing drunk driving charges has multiple decisions to make. Though these decisions will likely have a significant impact on the rest of her life, she may feel unprepared to make them. Many people in Virginia facing such charges choose to seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney to advise them regarding their options and help them choose the path that is most appropriate for their individual circumstances.
