The end of a relationship is always difficult, even when couples in Virginia are committed to splitting as amicably as possible. When a divorce involves two wealthy individuals living under a microscope who have six children together, the potential for conflict is even more understandable. In fact, recent court filings regarding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie question whether Pitt is paying an appropriate amount of child support.
The couple was married for two years before they separated in 2016. The time period since their separation has included several contentious interactions, even including allegations of abuse against Pitt. He has since been cleared of those allegations. In recent court filings, Jolie argues that Pitt has not contributed any meaningful child support since their separation, leaving her to shoulder the majority of the expenses related to the children.
Pitt has since countered those claims, arguing that he has paid more than $1.3 million toward the children’s bills and that he loaned Jolie $8 million to buy a new home. Representatives for Pitt claim that Jolie’s filings are simply an attempt “to manipulate media coverage.” A representative for Jolie countered that Jolie is actually paying interest on the loan, and Pitt’s response is simply him trying to hide the truth that he has not fulfilled his legal obligations regarding his children.
Unfortunately, famous couples are not the only people who disagree over child support and custody issues. Many in Virginia may also have difficulty coming to an agreement. As such, they ask an experienced attorney to help them seek a fair agreement.
