Drivers must take in and integrate a variety of different information while behind the wheel. They must be aware of other traffic in the area, the performance of their vehicle and the conditions of the roadways, among many other factors. Unfortunately, it is easy to see how a driver might overlook something, such as a traffic sign. Despite this, a man in Virginia was recently charged with drunk driving after his pickup truck allegedly struck a police cruiser.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on a day in November. Police claim that a 61-year-old male ran a stop sign at an intersection of two Virginia roads. The pickup is then said to have struck the driver’s side of a marked police cruiser.
While it is unclear if the driver of the pickup truck was injured, the police officer was transported to the hospital with injuries described as non life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck was arrested. Law enforcement officials suspect that he was driving while intoxicated.
Car accidents happen every day for a variety of different reasons. While drunk driving could potentially play a role in some accidents, many crashes are caused by other reasons. Unfortunately, some symptoms of intoxication could be similar to how a person might act after being involved in an accident. Many people in Virginia facing allegations of driving while intoxicated have little experience with the criminal justice system, often prompting them to seek advice from a legal professional. With such help, a defendant can have more confidence in the decisions that he or she must make.
