The loss of a loved one is never an easy event. Unfortunately, one family was hit with a double loss when a woman from out-of-state traveled to Virginia to help settle her grandfather’s estate following his death. Now, her uncle reportedly faces accusations of drunk driving following a fatal motor vehicle accident that allegedly resulted in the woman’s death.
The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. on a day in late June. According to reports, a 55-year-old man was headed south on a Virginia roadway. Reports indicate that the pickup truck exited the left side of the road. Unfortunately, police believe that the driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to exit the right side of the road and crash into a tree.
Though both occupants of the truck were reportedly wearing their seatbelts at the time, a 27-year-old female passenger in the truck — reportedly the driver’s niece — was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was reportedly uninjured. However, he has since been arrested, charged with DUI manslaughter.
In addition to coping with the loss of his niece, this man is now left to determine how to respond to the drunk driving allegations he is facing. Even without also experiencing this grief, many people in Virginia are unsure about the criminal justice system and their options. To ensure that they are able to make informed decisions, many who are accused of a crime hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to guide them throughout the process, giving them more confidence in their ability to make the decisions that they are facing.
