There are often unexpected obstacles when driving. While most drivers are aware of this potential and take appropriate measures, it might be easy for people to become disoriented when they encounter them at night. Despite this, a woman in Virginia is facing drunk driving charges as a result of an accident that happened at night.
According to police reports, the incident happened after police conducted a traffic stop around 1:10 a.m. on a day in early August. An officer who was conducting the traffic stop was joined by several other units. Reports indicate that the officers were preparing to “clear up” when the incident happened.
A sports utility vehicle reportedly driven by a 21-year-old woman is said to have struck two of the units. While no injuries were reported in the accident, reports indicate that all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The woman now faces a charge of driving under the influence. It is unclear how officers made a determination regarding the woman’s sobriety.
Unfortunately, those who are facing drunk driving charges in Virginia may be unfamiliar with their rights. Because they may have little experience with the criminal justice system, many people facing criminal charges do not feel able to make informed decisions about their cases. Fortunately, there are professionals who can advise defendants on all their options and their possible outcomes, giving them confidence in the decisions that they make as well as potentially reducing some of the stress associated with an arrest and charges.
