Man facing drunk driving charges following collision

A man in Virginia was recently charged with drinking and driving. The man's arrest took place after he reportedly crashed his car into a house as well as other automobiles. The man facing drunk driving charges is 33 years old.

Police said they were called to the scene of a car crash at about 3:21 a.m. on a Monday. At the scene, they found the man with severe injuries. According to police, the man had apparently lost control of his car and left the roadway while speeding.

Police said the man then struck three parked cars as well as a house. In addition, debris from the crash reportedly caused damage to another home in the area. Authorities ended up charging the man with driving with a suspended license, driving recklessly and driving while under the influence. Authorities also served him a warrant for intending to distribute a drug.

The man facing drunk driving charges has the option of going to trial to vigorously fight his criminal charges. At trial, the prosecution must prove his charges beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can be secured. This high standard exists in an effort to protect innocent people from being convicted of crimes that they did not commit.

However, if the prosecution appears to have strong evidence to support their charges, the man may decide to pursue a plea agreement with prosecutors instead. A plea agreement might offer the benefit of leading to a lighter charge and therefore a more personally favorable sentence than what the man may have received if found guilty at trial. Either way, an attorney in Virginia will seek the best outcome for the defendant, given the circumstances of the case.
